candy bar pic

i saw someone bring this up on a board, and figured i'd try my first screenshot.

blurry as hell, but it's definitely (something)23-04

THIS is the level of detail the set designers go into... unreal.

here's a better shot of it (clock to see it larger). looks like october.

this is so ridiculous.

walt, the universe, and everything...

in the water:
Jin is yelling from the exploded part of the raft, saywer goes to save Michael

michaels flashback in new york:
Nice shot of the twin towers outside of the lawyers office.
Susan and Brian moved from Amsterdam to rome to Australia… sounds like a race around the world? Is walt a miracle? Did his mom know?

down in the hole:
Okay, okay, they were lockes boots.
Its definitely dharma with a swan (or a sea monster) there's no backwards R
the metal box to the left of the dharma box locke is looking at has [something]CHWP-2 written on it.
the thing on the mural I thought was a glass wall is actually a blue arrow pointing up. Two arrows in the mural, one blue, one red, some different colored fish… what does it mean?
I think my map was fairly accurate, except for the overall shape of the room and the medicine cabinet, which is against the wall next to the dining nook
desmond has kate laid out like bait

back in the water:
Was it a shark? The splash looks like a whales tail…

in new york:
The white laywer at the far end of the table looks familiar… was he a survivor on the beach in the pilot? or am i just recognizing him from a burger king commercial or something?

***
also, the conference room is the same room where claire was 'trying' to sign her kid away.
i'm 75% sure its just them reusing a set, its a little redecorated (the black rock model and a hanging on the wall next to the window), but the fact that they use the same room for:

1. when claire is going to sign away her kid and is unable to (the pen doesn't work)
and
2. where michael DOES sign away his kid.

has 25% of me thinking its going to mean something...

down in the hole:
love this dialog
“you’re finally here”
“well, here I am”
it's almost seussian...

desmond asks locke for the codewords-shades of alias
"what did one snowman say to the other snowman"
(falcon and the snowman reference? is he a soviet spy?)

locke says they've been there for 44 days and it registers with desmond, something clicks, like he knows of something that happened 44 days ago.
it looks like there are thousands of hash marks marking time on the wall.
Locke slips kate the knife when he's tying her up

the caves:
Charlie and his H
“…be a nice thing to have around”

here comes the water:
sawyer comes to the conclusion we all did at the end of last season, walt was the boy they wanted all along and they, the others, came and got him, that boat wasn’t big enough to be from anywhere but the island
“bluebeard” ha ha ha

new york:
susan and mike in the lawyers office- is that a model of the black rock behind them?
Shes playing Michael here, I don’t think shes sincere at all. shes up to something. is walt being experimented on or something?

kate in the pantry:
she turns on the light, and the dharma logo is everywhere! After a week of dissecting shadowy screenshots!! The writers must have known that would happen, and this was all a big nelson "HA HA" at the fans.
touche.
Kate eats an Apollo bar and has an orgasm. Women and chocolate…

back out in the hole:
Locke is just a plain old guy now, telling the story… just sit right back and you'll hear a tale.
desmond-“so the world is still out there?”
“as far as I know”

the timer starts ticking- des forces locke to the computer and asks if he knows how to use it. locke mentions he hasn’t seen a computer like that in 20 years.
The timer is counting down from 2:37-2:36
someone has to type the numbers in before the clock hits zero every 108 minutes or what happens??!?
you couldn't exactly get a good nights sleep if that’s the case, and it would explain why two people “should” be down there, like a missile silo, two to turn the keys and all that.
The clock resetting was the flippy noise we heard last week...

I thought kates screams were maybe part of a elaborate whispers prank desmond was pulling on the survivors. guess not.
nice that his warning shot almost takes kate out...

i have a new theory (which, if nothing else, explains the title of this post)
Is the island powered by the infinite improbability drive, and the numbers control it somehow? That’s why the last one is 42?
sort of like the philadelphia experiment, the island has just been warped to somewhere/somewhen?
maybe thats the only chance to get back to where/when desmond came from. it takes 108 minutes for the magnet to charge up again and you have to release the charge everytime? maybe 44 days ago desmond didnt hit execute in time, and thats what brought the plane down? the magnet got supercharged and went out of control?
so maybe every 108 minutes something unexplainable (improbable)happens on the island? (when he has to type in the numbers and hit execute)
when he typed them in before (first scene last episode)I think is when walt appeared to shannon. So what happened up top when locke just punched them in? will we find out next week?
it also shows us that its only been 108 minutes since he got up in the first scene last episode, right?
we still don't know if desmond knows (or remembers) jack. he calls everyone brother...

back in the water:
Okay, it was definitely a dorsal fin that michael blew away, a shark after all… probably, but maybe it had frickin laser beams attached to its head? cause it had the dharma logo on it.
("mama cass deceased, ham sandwich")

back in new york:
mike gives toddler walt a stuffed polar bear and an emotional little speech about being his daddy… maybe walt subconsciously remembers the daddy speech and the polar bear, explains the polar bears on the island while he's reunited with his daddy... maybe walt is the only thing that has the power to control the improbability drive and get them out of the wrinkle in time everyone on the island is trapped in?

in the water/on the island:
The current brings them back, but maybe there is just nowhere to get to.
The island at the end of the universe.
”we’re home” - great line

Jin speaks a little English… "michael! Others!"

they don’t look like the boat people, most likely it’s the tail survivors, and they’re already sick. this is the bad side of the island...
Is that ana lucia with her hands on her hips standing on the right in the back?
looks like the hills on the island have eyes. creepy creepy creepy ending shot.

it just gets better and better...

****
a quick update/theory

okay, during WWII the US military tried the philadelphia experiment. which was really to try and make the ship invisible. let's say they also tried it on an island in the south pacific. it would make good military sense to have an invisible island there...
and it worked.

the only problem is the sequence needs to be run every 108 minutes or the magnet charges up too much energy, and when that happens, bad things happen. like ships from the 1600's are sucked onto the island, along with some planes every once in a while.

but even running it every 108 minutes makes strange things happen, jacks dead dad, reverse walt, whispers in the jungle, etc.
also, the residual effect of the invisibility (or whatever) makes people sick, hence the CR 4-8151623 42 vial.

so anyway, at some point about 16 years ago, desmond messes up and lets the magnet charge up too much, and the island and anything within a certain radius is sucked into an alternate universe, the fourth dimension, etc... either way, another time, another place.

i know this is full of holes, which i'll try to plug and flesh out when i'm not at work, but i just wanted to get this down before i started to think it was something else.

down the hatch part two

Okay, here’s what I see when jack is down there.

First a quick observation on the opening scene; in slo-mo, you can see that everytime it zooms in on a mirror, what we’re seeing is jack and locke (with his torch) looking down the hatch. I’m sure this has been noticed before on some board somewhere, but it was new to me.

now back to jack down there.

I was sure it was a different version of the same room, or two different places, before, but not anymore. One big place, see the map below.

Finds the source of the blinding light, a mounted spotlight. Then sees that the boots kate pulled off the dead guy (while locke aped at her with an orange) are neatly placed on the ground. The ground is covered in something red.

There’s a cable (or a hose), at first I thought maybe like the one sayid followed, but it looks like it’s connected to a temperature gauge and a water pipe, so maybe it’s the hot water source for the hatch?

Sees a junction/fuse box across from the water pipe (bong?) jammed partly open. Theres what looks like an underlined W in a circle on it. Strange things are afoot at the circle dubya...

Right to the right of that is some kind of steel box, or cabinet, with what could be a hinge hanging from the front, with something on the top. It could be a pipe or a dusty bowling trophy, I really can’t make it out.

Further up, on the right, he sees a smaller fuse/junction box with three bulbs or switches/fuses under it. Follows the pipes coming out of it up past the shiny steel arch to the roof of the tunnel.

Okay, now the mural. I’ve purposely avoided reading about this so I could look at it with fresh eyes, so if this is all crap you’ve read before, I apologize:

108 (total of the numbahhs) written in the (possible) sun, and under the sun. thing above the sun could be a blue airplane on fire with lots of stick people around it, some on fire. Could be water too.
Theres a 42 above a closed eye, with an open eye under it (the I am sick eye)
Under the sun it says OUT next to a purple fish.
To the right of that is what could be a fence, or a glass wall, with a house behind it.
There’s a clear fish, and the eye msick message (just like a mickeys cap!). there’s also what looks to be some type of red moat around the eyemsick house, and a red arrow beneath it pointing up. it looks like something is circled in red out of view behind the yellow paint canister.

the red moat is-IMPORTANT. There was red on the floor around kates shoes, and it looks like the rest of the tunnel floor is red also. Now we’re all sick.
(there’s a light bulb in the paint tray. Was (s)he spending so much so much time at the mural lights were burning out? Also a jar with ‘golde’ something on the label and some rubber gloves)

He keeps heading up the corridor, and sees another of the smaller fuse/junction boxes with three bulbs under it. green lit up on the left, dead red in the middle, and lit up red on the right. the cement buckets are also on his right, in front of what? A closed off corridor? Or is the place in disrepair and this is just a tribute to the rebel base on hoth? There are scorch marks at the bottom of the planks that have been cemented up.

The magnet draws the key up, jack looks in that direction and sees what? I can’t make it out, another black rock? The obsidian tiki god? Is there a naturally occurring rock that’s magnetized? Maybe its part of a mine shaft? Mining the magnetic black rocks, I dunno…It’s 4am, leave me alone.

Theres a bank of computers on the right past the repairs.
The mirror whirrs into action, then the music kicks in (EXACTLY where it left off- this could mean something) and there’s a lot of misdirection with the way jack is spinning around, but I think its just to convey how confused and scared he is.
(And to make us think the place is a lot bigger than it really is, maybe?) He ducks into a small corridor across from the computers, and it’s the entry into the dome.

Walks past a couple of large old computers and what look like some type of frequency analyzers? (You can hear whispers/kate calling his name?)
also the whrirring sound is the sound we heard when execute was typed in the first scene. Jack sees the execute computer desk, and it still has the coffee mug on there. Theres a bowl behind it, and on the other side, something circular, maybe a ¼” tape case?

Anyway, you know the rest, I think locke is standing in the doorway to the south looking north at jack (according to my map)
And I still don’t get why desmonds hands are so damn dirty, unless the second person stationed there is down there now, and (s)he is the one that took a shower earlier, not him.

almost down the hatch part two

okay, after watching jack traverse the hatchy hole, iv'e come to the conclusion that this is all one place, one time, the only thing somewhat unexplained is the grime on desmonds hand. i have plenty to write about, but i got stuck making this map out.
not nearly to scale, probably hardly accurate, extremely simplified, but i was compelled.
more writings later, i promise.

oh, and one quick theory i'll throw out there.
when he types the numbers and hits execute, is it possible that that is what causes the backwards wet walt appearance topside? all we know is that they're all still waiting at the caves for jack n co to get back from the hatch, so the timeline could fit.

down the hatch, part one

okay, kinda messy, but in (kinda)sequence:

Gets out of bunk bed

Types in 4 space 8 space 15 space 16 space 23 space 42 execute

theres a green tennis ball on table (is it vincents? there's probably no tennis courts around, but is there another dog to play with?)

is it Claires blue sweatshirt on back of couch? Looks too small for a guy...

Single ping pong paddle on chair

on the record sleeve there's a white sticker in the corner with E|V or EN? could be N3 or V|3 maybe if it's a mirror image?

at the dining table, there's a backgammon or go board with a game in progress (possibly the source of the black and white rocks jack found on 'adam and eve' in the first season?), a magazine or newspaper open on the table, and on the other side the seat has an open book (and a couple of comics?)

Washer and dryer are new models, looks like the blender is too

Is that a flat screen on the brick wall?

Lots of dirty dishes

the speedometer on exerbike goes from 15 to 16, and just below the frame is 4, with 42 on the opposite side

Medicine cabinet has the "dharma" logo on it

the label on the bottle he injects reads CR 4-81516-23 42

the explosion happens almost instantaneously with injection completion
(what movie did this? Mulholland drive? donnie darko? the reality of the movie changed just as a certain event occurred...)

then the first shot(after the needle scratching)is a mirror image of how we saw the room before

the other ping pong paddle is on a ping pong table we didnt see before with a ball
---that + backgammon game + bunk beds + dirty dishes = at least 2 people living there

safe combination shot starts on 23 to 42 to 48ish…

in the gun closet, there are four spaces for pistols and two are already missing

he looked blonde earlier, now, in the first clear shot of his hair since the injection/explosion/mirrored shot, the hair is distinctly brown

grabs an AK 47 after cocking a small black pistol similar to the one jack has at the end

then back in the main room he turns off the alarm/monitor/power thingy next to a reel to reel machine, both of which have dharma logos. its not a mirror image, and he’s clearly blonde again

in the corridor to the left of record player, (and the right of bike/washer&dryer) the mural is on the left side and the concrete repairs on the right

he runs past the dinner table, which is now spotless, the game, the books and some drinking glasses are gone (is it a different table? different hatch?)

when he's hitting the mirror switches, there's a shot sweeping from a mirror mounted on the wall down past a a dharma logo on the left, then the next shot is the exact same shot, just reversed. Another mirror image... (are we somewhere else again?)

the shot in the final mirror has locke, jack, and the torch reflected in it, then it pulls up to them

make your own kind of music

I'll set this place up all pretty-like tonight. i want to start going episode by episode, scene by scene and discussing it.
in the meantime:

make your own kind of music - cass elliot

Nobody can tell ya;
There's only one song worth singin'.
They may try and sell ya,
'cause it hangs them up
to see somone like you.

But you've gotta make your own kind of music
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music even if nobody
else sing along.

So if you cannot take my hand,
and if you must be goin',
I will understand.

You're gonna be knowing
the loneliest kind of lonely.
It may be rough goin',
just to do your thing's
the hardest thing to do.

But you've gotta make your own kind of music
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music even if nobody
else sings along.

So if you cannot take my hand,
and if you must be goin',
I will understand.

You gotta make your own kind of music
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music even if nobody
else sings along.
